Thanksgiving was a smashing success!
We were lucky enough to have thanksgiving with my sister. I prepped all month. It was my attempt to make everything from scratch. I did it! It wasn't stressful at all, it was fun, timely done and so so good. The best thanksgiving robbie and I have ever had.
Robbie got a 10 pound Amish all natural turkey that I made using maple syrup and butter..I thought how delish I wonder if anyone has ever thought of putting Maple syrup...and guess who did? Good old Martha Stewart.
I am not a fan of stuffing so I wanted to take as much control over it as possible. I made cornbread from scratch and bought a really good sourdough loaf to create my stuffing. A few seasonings and some chicken broth and it was good!
I made my moms delish cranberry cream cheese rolls. I had made the dinner rolls from scratch earlier that month and split them so we could have some homemade dinner rolls later for sandwiches. On top of that we bought fresh cranberries and dehydrated them ourselves! So so good!
My disappointment from the meal was my sweet potato fries. They weren't great. Good but not great. Did. You know sweet potatoes and yams are the same thing in the USA? Who knew!? Not me..I spent weeks trying to find sweet potatoes. Lol
Finally my only boxed items were some mashed potatoes, gravy, and a pie crust. I made apple pie of course. I'm too full to even try it though lol.
I could not be more proud of myself. I'm hoping I can eventually get it to everything from scratch. It's surprisingly easy if you have time to plan and cook ahead of time. Everything was all natural and some organic! I am so happy it worked out!
I hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving! We did!
It sounds great! Wish I could have tasted some of your self made recipes. Delish! That's so weird that they don't sell sweet potatoes in Wisconsin. They sell them seperatley at our local Ralph's.
ReplyDeleteNice work! I assume you are talking about Elise? Did she bring her bf? I've tried making sweet potato fries before as well, they tasted good, but kind of soggy:/
