confused

okay so may be this is going to sound incredibly rude but im really just curious.

A lot of people i have met are atheist. More then i would think, really, but whatever.

I don't know if there are different kinds of atheist, but i assume when someone tells me that they don't believe in any sort of god. I do know a few who have said they believe in an afterlife of some sort. Actually wristcutters does a pretty good atheist type afterlife if you have seen that movie. Its pretty weird. I actually can't even remember if i liked it.

All of these atheists still celebrate christmas and easter. Thats whats weird to me. It's a christian holiday..celebrating the birth and death of Jesus Christ. I mean i can understand someone wanting to celebrate them, who wouldnt, its just confusing to me.

I've come to these conclusions.

1. They are celebrating them, because their families do, sort of like a family get together. I mean if i was invited into a house with a bunch of jewish people and they were celebrating Hanukkah i suppose i would too, out of respect.

2. They are celebrating them because they just like the holiday.

3. They are celebrating them, because they just don't have a belief in any sort of religion..which really they could celebrate whatever they wanted.

I just dont get it i guess.
