After working in retail for a fair number of years at multiple jobs i have a list of annoyances like i am sure everyone has in their field of work. After speaking with other employees ive found a similarity in our annoyances.
You want good service, dont do the following:
1. Complain, shrug, sigh or be disappointed with how something is bagged. Believe it or not almost no one else is like you. Unless you specify you are bound to be disappointed. So either learn to live with it or speak up. That being said if you like having all your red items together, your frozen in three plastic bags and a paper, and milk poured in separate glasses ready to be drunk you should consider bagging you own items.
2. The cashier is just as thrilled about the line as you are. You have to deal with the fact that you are upset, we have to deal with the fact that 20 people in a row are mad at us for the line. Get a clue.
3. Get off your phone if you want help. I understand your life must be very important if you cant give your full attention to an employee that is trying to answer a question you asked. We don't want to participate in your two way conversation. Unless the person on the other line wants to know the calorie content of your dinner call them back!
4. Don't intend to buy something and then be SURPRISED by the outrageous price. The sticker is not only posted on the shelf but also on the product. By time you have reached me this is the third time you should be seeing the price. There is nothing i can do about what it costs. If i could i wouldn't be behind the cash register listening to you complain about it.
5. Don't be upset if you don't get a ginormous smile out of me. Yes you should expect friendliness thats what im getting payed for. Before you i had 300 people and after you i will have that many more, it is tiring.
6. Dont hit on me. Plain and simple, just because i can't be rude and call you a creep doesn't mean i'm not thinking it.
7. Don't come in screaming about how another employee is so STUPID and overcharged you. Yes we agree it really sucks, and we want to help. However when you call our fellow workers and friends idiots we aren't as thrilled about making you happy.
8. A follow up to number 7, remember we are human. We make mistakes, i know its hard to believe we aren't fully functioning machines from the year 3000.
9. Don't tell me stupid jokes. Again just because i am paid to stand here doesn't mean i have to laugh at your dixie cup joke.
10. Dont get mad at us if we are out of a product. Unfortunately life does not run like clockwork and you have to experience it like everyone else.
11. Don't call me hun, honey, sweetie, sweetheart, pretty, baby, or any other terms of endearment. i know you are trying to be endearing but to me its just demeaning.
Most of you are A okay. For the rest of you, theres 11 reasons why your service sucks.
Have a nice day :)
lol sorry i haven't commented much -- been working, taking care of jaren, taking trips to idaho, trying to catch up on some missed sleep, etc. you know the run down. but i can't say that i haven't been reading/listening to jaren read to me your posts as soon as you write them.
ReplyDeletesuper funny.
but i have to say that i'm a fan of new years resolutions. i totally get what you're saying, but i think its a good time for those people who don't normally make goals to make them -- because i would like to see a world where people are (and look) better. ;)
i personally like it cause it gives me a specific time to look over my whole year and decide on how i want to be better compared to the year before. loser -- i know lol
as far as your list above, the 4th one is boss. super ridiculous of ppl to think that prices change in the 3 mins between the shelf and the counter.
