Who do i make this out to?

I experienced one of the weirdest phenomenons at work when i was 16. What i thought was a one time thing is a lot more common place then i suspected.

We take checks at the health food store i work at. We also have a lot of older clients, because they are..well sick.

A 50ish year old woman was writing a check out to me, the 16 year old bored minimum wage paid cashier, when she looked up confused and said.."who do i make this out to? Where am i?"

I was completely stunned. I thought may be she had the beginnings of Alzheimers or something.

It has happened about 15 times total to me while i have worked there, it has also happened to robbie.

It makes me wonder, what would it be like to look up and wonder where you were? How do you even go about entering a store, buying 70 dollars worth of stuff and checking out without the slightest clue? You are supporting a store that your mind hasn't even found important enough to commit to memory. Is your life one completely big haze?

Heres the two options of going to a store-

you either have been there before, which in that case..if i'm at pick n save, im aware of it.

or you are going there for the first time so you have to look up the place, and then find it...which i think would be familiarizing yourself with the name.

It makes me wonder about these people. How can you shop around in complete peace without the slightest idea of where you are? Do they spend a lot of there life that way?
